USA Ultimate Coaching

In 2004 the UPA began an extensive effort to create a corps of professionally trained coaches. Through standardizing coaching ethics and the Spirit of Coaching, to providing safety information for youth athletes, the Level I course helps to defines the role of coaches in Ultimate. Building on the success of the Level I program, the UPA launched the Level II advanced skills course in 2007.

Officiating: Rules and Observers

Part of the game's official rules, Spirit of the Game (SOTG) is based on the belief that respect and honor between competitors make it possible for control of the game to be in the players' hands.  Each athlete is obliged to trust every other player on the field to act as an official throughout play.  Players are responsible for making their own calls.

USA Ultimate endorses the use of Observers in Ultimate.  Observers are non-players whose role is to carefully watch the action of the game and to perform any or all of the following duties: track time limits, resolve player disputes, censure or eject playeyrs for sportsmanship infractions, and issue rulings on line calls, off-sides calls and some time limits.  The difference between an observer and a referee is that in general, observers only make rulings on infractions called by players, and only after the players have failed to resolve the issue themselves.

USA Ultimate Event Sanctioning Program

The purpose of the event sanctioning program is to encourage and support the growth of Ultimate at all levels and in all forms by assisting event organizers in providing their local community with opportunities to participate and learn about the sport through high quality, well organized events.

USA Ultimate Innovation Grant Program

Through the grant program, applicants can receive funding for projects that promote growth in Ultimate and Ultimate Spirit, create links between the UPA and local organizers, serve members' needs and inspire others to further innovation and excellence.

Conferences and Conventions

USA Ultimate hosts a biennial convention for people who organize Ultimate events and programs.  The purpose of the convention is to encourage communication amongst participants and share best practices which will equip participants with valuable organizational tools.
