Programs, Services, & Benefits for Affiliates
- USA Ultimate Education & Outreach ProgramsPreference for running the following programs is given to USAU Affiliates, who are committed to running at least one of these programs in their community each year: Click here for details on the following program options.
- Host a Girls Ultimate Movement (GUM) clinic or league. Notes.
An outreach program designed to increase girls’ participation with a focus on creating opportunities for youth and high school aged girls to participate in sports, lead with their peers, and celebrate the beauty of sport with their opponents. As an explosive team sport that emphasizes character and leadership skills, ultimate is the NEXT big sport for girls.
- Run the Middle School GUM Curriculum. Notes.
Over the course of 8 sessions, groups of girls come together to learn the fundamentals of the sport, create a team, and grow as young leaders. The curriculum culminates in a community project, providing an opportunity for participants to work together to serve their wider community and demonstrate what they have learned about ultimate and leadership. This could be done as the affiliate or with a youth-serving organization, such as a Jewish Community Center (JCC), Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girls/Boys Club, YMCA or Parks & Rec.
- Faciliate a Coaching Development Program (CDP) workshop. Notes.
Level I and Level II coaching education workshops are the first step towards becoming a Certified Coach. The curriculum covers topics as varied as practice planning, athlete safety, coaching roles and more. For affiliate organizations with a local Clinic Instructor (who does not need to be transported to the clinic), there is the opportunity to receive a revenue share from the fees paid by registrants.
- Facilitate a Learn to Play (LTP) clinic, series of clinics, or league. Notes.
A set of resources to introduce new kids to the sport of ultimate through free introductory clinics. These resources include: marketing support, clinic formats, and equipment.
- Faciliate an Observer Certification Program (OCP) clinic. Notes.
USA Ultimate clinics that include discussion of the Observer Code of Conduct, officiating philosophies, and officiating mechanics as well as skills and drills and game-time experience. Participants have the opportunity to become USA Ultimate Certified Observers.
- Host an in-service for Physical Educator (PE) Training. Notes.
USA Ultimate has a curriculum designed and tested by teachers for use in the classroom. Hosting a district in-service is a great way to make in-roads into the schools.
- Host an in-service for professional Community Recreation Development staff at youth-serving organizations and/or parents. Notes.
USA Ultimate will support the development of Community Recreation Programs (YMCAs, Boys & Girls Clubs, Parks & Recreation Centers, Community Centers, Catholic Youth Organizations, et al) with staff training, program formats, and promotion.
- Represent USAU and your Affiliate organization at the State PE Conference. Notes.
USA Ultimate will provide affiliates with presentation and exhibition materials to support an affiliate presence at their State SHAPE America conference. SHAPE America is a professional organization for Physical Education teachers. State conferences provide opportunities for teachers to learn about Ultimate through a brief (45-60 min) academic session or by stopping by the affiliate booth in the exhibition arena. USA Ultimate will cover the exhibitor fees and will match any travel funds made available to volunteers by the affiliate. Interested affiliates can contact their local outreach state youth coordinator
for details & availability.
- Additional Resources, Services, & Benefits Affiliates receive numerous additional opportunities to benefit from other exclusive programs and services from USAU, many of which support their commitment to run at least 2 events each year:
- Infrastructure Grant. Notes.
For organizations that commit to at least a 3-year term as a USAU Affiliate, a $500 Infrastructure Grant is automatically approved and issued to the organization and can be used for any changes or updates required for immediately improving operations and/or compliance with any affiliation requirements.
- Enhanced Insurance Coverage. Notes.
Affiliates receive excellent, comprehensive insurance coverage through USA Ultimate. Our goal is to provide affiliates with BETTER coverage that they would get with an individual policy, even though an individual policy may be less expensive up front. Affiliates receive VERY comprehensive, high-quality coverage! And USA Ultimate will also do all of the renewal work, so the Affiliate can focus on ultimate. We review our coverage with a professional amateur sport focused broker annually, evaluate the current and ever-changing sports environment, incorporate recommendations on trends and risks to look out for from the U.S. Olympic Committee, and make updates to our policy to reflect industry changes. Coverage for USA Ultimate Affiliates will always be provided by a proven, trusted A-rated carrier, from among the few insurance providers that have the experience and reputation to successfully insure sports organizations and their programs. The point is NOT to JUST provide a certificate to reserve fields; our insurance truly protects our affiliates, participants and board of directors from risks associated with running a local organization. Saving a little money annually on cheap insurance isn't worth the risk of not having the insurance actually come through when something goes wrong.
In addition to commercial general liability and robust participant accident/injury coverage for all registered events (tournaments, leagues, camps, clinics, etc) run by USA Ultimate Affiliates, USAU will cover the cost (up to $750/year) of a Directors and Officers (D&O) insurance policy for organizations that commit to a 3-year term of affiliation. Affiliates who commit only to one year at a time, will receive access to purchase a policy from our A-rated carrier at a preferred rate (as low as $450/year).
- Discounted Affiliate-Level Memberships. Notes.
Affiliate membership levels (over 70% off the standard full adult/college player membership) cover a full calendar year of participation in all affiliate-owned/operated events (tournaments, leagues, camps, clinics, etc), at roughly the same price as single Event memberships for non-affiliate sanctioned event participants!
- Membership Rebates. Notes.
Affiliates receive an annual rebate of $0.50 per membership purchased for participation in the affiliate organization's events and programs. The more members, the higher the annual rebate check that can be used to improve member programs and services!
- "Play it Forward" Memberships for Disadvantaged Youth. Notes.
Affiliates receive access to financial support that will fully cover the cost of memberships for youth players with a demonstrated, qualified need for some financial assistance.
- Affiliate Grant Funding. Notes.
Exclusive grant funding opportunities to support new programs targeted at youth, launch new ideas, expand your reach, and grow your organization's operations and effectiveness.
- Discounted Event Sanctioning. Notes.
Affiliates can register to sanction & insure their events (tournaments, leagues, clinics, practices, etc) without paying any application fees ($50-$200 savings per event), and sanctioning confirmation is guaranteed whenever submission deadlines are met, with no waiting for application approval.
