2014 Youth Club Championships Applications Open, New U-16 Girls Division

Boulder, Colo. (January 31, 2014) – USA Ultimate is pleased to announce that the registration window for the 2014 Youth Club Championships (YCC) is now open. Last year, 43 teams from 19 different cities competed at YCC, both record numbers. This year, that growth is expected to continue as USA Ultimate constantly works to ensure competitive, championship-level playing opportunities are available for all youth ultimate players.

This year, for the first time, we are excited to introduce a U-16 Girls' division at the Youth Club Championships, in addition to the U-19 Boys, U-19 Girls, U-19 Mixed and U-16 Boys divisions. In order to foster the division, this will be a unique combo camp and competition that will be open to both team registrants and individual registrants.

"The U-16 Girls’ division will be open to both traveling teams and individual registrants. Saturday will be a camp with all U-16 girls' players and coaches together in morning and afternoon sessions," explains Baker Pratt, USA Ultimate Manager of Competition & Athlete Programs – Youth. "There will be all-star coaching staff, skills, drills, practices and team-building sessions. On Sunday, there will be a one-day championship between regional all-star teams and traveling teams to crown the first ever U-16 girls' division champion!"

Phase 1 applications are due Friday, February 28, 2014, by 5pm MT. Bids will be awarded according to the team selection process on March 7. Phase 2 applications are due Friday, May 9, 2014, by 5pm MT. Phase 2 bids will be awarded on May 31.

Multiple bid deadlines were established to accommodate leagues and teams that want to know early in the year how many bids they will receive and in which division(s). Recognizing that not all leagues are ready to bid early, Phase 2 was created to fill any vacant bids after Phase 1 and provide a second opportunity for new leagues and teams to apply. For more information on the YCC application process, deadlines and bid allocations, please review the Youth Division Competition Guidelines.

As in 2013, USA Ultimate will be hosting a one day National Team-Talent ID Camp on Monday, August 11, open to all youth athletes to receive top-notch, world-class coaching. Camp registration and details will be available in the coming weeks.

The Youth Club Championships are held annually to provide national-level competition for youth ultimate players and encourage local, non-high school based playing opportunities for youth within the USA Ultimate structure.

The 2014 Youth Club Championships will take place August 9-10, at their perennial home at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn., with Minnesota Youth Ultimate serving as the local organizing committee.
