ANN (COHAN) ORDERS Inducted: 2006 - Player Current Home: Moraga, Calif. Born: June 12, 1960

Ann (Cohan) Orders started her Ultimate career on the Michigan State University Women's team in 1981 as one of the original Fisheads. Over the years, Ann's throwing skills were rated among the most premier in the women's game. Throughout her playing career on the Fisheads, Santa Barbara Condors, LA and San Diego, Ann took a leadership role and provided strategy and focus at the highest levels of competition - earning six UPA Club Championships, three World Championships, and contributing to the growth of women's Ultimate in the communities in which she has lived. Ann was successful on the field and worked to teach skills to younger players and elevate the women's game throughout her Ultimate career.

Interview

Q: What position(s) (e.g., handler, deep cutter, middle-middle) did you usually play?

A: Handler.

Q: Describe your major accomplishments – both as a teammate and an individual player?

A: Six-time National Champion, three-time World Champion, along with numerous other tournament titles.

As a teammate, I provided leadership to the team, strategy and focus.  As a team,  we worked exceptionally hard to elevate the level of play in the Women’s Division – fitness, throwing, offensive and defensive skills, etc.

I played a significant role in starting/growing Women’s Ultimate in the communities in which I lived (Michigan State, Colorado, Los Angeles, Idaho).

Q: Why did you stand out among the elite players of your time?  What was it that you did best, or were known for?  

A: Leadership skills, throws, strategy, work ethic, teaching younger players.

Q: What was the role with the best (or most overachieving) team that you played on?

A: Team leader.

Q: What was the peak of your career?  If you continued playing after your peak years, how did your role change?  In what year did you stop playing at the top competitive level?

A: The peak of my career was 1981-92 during which I had a leadership role on my team and won Nationals six times (as well as a second place finish and two semi-final finishes) and Worlds three times.  After my peak years, I remained an informal leader and worked to teach skills to younger players.  In addition, I helped to start/grow teams in my community.

Q: Why do you believe you were worthy of being inducted into the Ultimate Hall of Fame?

A: Primarily for my success on the field, my leadership roles, and helping to grow the sport and helping to elevate the level of women’s play.
