College STAR Program

We are proud to announce the Fall 2011 College STAR Program events!

Capital Open Club Sectionals
Sept 17, 2011
Truck Stop
STAR Contact: Jonathan Neeley (star_ma_capital@usaultimate.org)
Sectional Coordinators: Aric Mills (sc_ma_capital@usaultimate.org)
Players will have the opportunity to learn a variety of on-field skills, as well as how to develop a college program.  Come learn from the best players in the DC area!

West Plains Women's Club Sectionals

Sept 17, 2011
Revoloution
STAR Contact: Lindsey Gapstur (star_cn_wplains@usaultimate.org)
Sectional Coordinator: Melissa Huegerich (wsc_cn_wplains@usaultimate.org)
Revoloution will be leading a skills clinic after games on Saturday with the goal of reaching out to the local Midwest ultimate community.  The clinic will be targeted to benefit the programs that Revoloution players "grew up" playing for and against.  Revoloution sees this as an opportunity to give back to their ultimate community as well as a way to advance the programs that they hope will fuel the future of the team.

NorCal Women's Club Sectionals

Sept 17, 2011
Fury / Zeitgeist / Slackjaw
STAR Contact: Abby VanMuijen (star_nw_norcal@usaultimate.org)
Sectional Coordinator: Kelly Baptiste (wsc_nw_norcal@usaultimate.org)
The Bay Area's women's teams are teaming up to offer college women in Northern California an exciting learning opportunity.  In the morning, college players will have the opportunity to watch some high-level games.  This will be followed by players from Fury, Zeitgeist, and Slackjaw leading a skills clinic.  If there is time, there will be a club / college mixer scrimmage and the day will be capped with a FREE BBQ.  Many of the women on all three Bay Area women's club teams remember Club Sectionals as one of their first ultimate experiences, and are excited for this opportunity to get college players fired up about the sport!

East Coast Open, Women's, and Mixed Club Sectionals
Sept 17-18, 2011
Chain Lightning / Ozone
STAR Contact: Kirsten Shell (star_so_ecoast@usaultimate.org)
Sectional Coordinators: Ben Spears (sc_so_ecoast@usaultimate.org), Kate Wilson (wsc_so_ecoast@usaultimate.org), Pete Holiday (xsc_so_ecoast@usaultimate.org)
College players will have the opportunity to play in a coed all-star game at the end of Saturday and will be coached by players from Chain and Ozone.  On Sunday morning, club players from these teams will lead clinics (split out by gender).

Texas Open, Women's, and Mixed Club Sectionals
Sept 24-25, 2011
Doublewide / Showdown
STAR Contact: Tina Woodings (star_so_texas@usaultimate.org)
Sectional Coordinators: Jim Froeschner (sc_so_texas@usaultimate.org), Jess Huynh (wsc_so_texas@usaultimate.org), Michelle Walters (xsc_so_texas@usaultimate.org)
Doublewide and Showdown will be leading a coed skills clinic so that college players have the opportunity to mingle and learn from some of the best players in the state.  If there is interest, there may also be a leadership development opportunity for players to learn about topics ranging from fundraising to fitness.  Showdown has been involved in running a number of skills clinics focused on college women's players, and this joint effort with Doublewide will reach the greater college ultimate community.

Rocky Mountain Women's Club Sectionals
Sept 25, 2011
Molly Brown
STAR Contact: Michelle Ng (star_sw_rocky@usaultimate.org)
Sectional Coordinator: Sonya Wytinck (wsc_sw_rocky@usaultimate.org)
Molly Brown will be leading a skills clinic at Virginia Fusion the week before Sectionals, and the team will bring those clinics home to Colorado to teach local college teams participating in Division II Sectionals.  A taste of those clinics can be found here: http://virginiafusion.wordpress.com/skills-clinic.  Molly Brown players are involved in the women's ultimate community at the sectional, regional, and national level, and the team sees this as another opportunity to build ultimate in Colorado and to invest in the college programs that are a part of their local community and beyond.

One or two more events may be added.  Please contact Michelle Ng (michelle@hq.usaultimate.org) if you would like to submit an application to host an event.
