USA Ultimate College Season

College Season Overview

The 2013 College Season is underway, building on much of the structure that has been created over the past three years.  Some slight modifications can be found in the conference assignments and season guidelines.

The 2011 and 2012 College Seasons implemented a number of changes via a college restructuring process, including changing from 8 to 10 Regions, a greater strength component to bid allocation, and the formation of conferences of team separated by factors such as school size.   The end result of this restructuring process included the final boundaries redraw, assignment of teams into conferences, and other details outlined in the season guidelines.

The 2010 College Season saw a number of big changes, including the implementation of the College Regular Season, increased playing opportunities for small schools, and 16% growth in the women's division.  Over 50 USA Ultimate sanctioned regular season event were run, in which the results between eligibility verified teams counted for the College Rankings, which impacted bid allocation to the Regional and National events.  In all, over 12,000 college players on on 700 college teams took part in the College Season.

On a College Team? What You Should Do

1) Read the 2013 College Season Guidelines, College Eligibility Rules, and Conference Assignments.

2) Contact your College Coordinator to let them know you exist.  See that page for a list of vacancies.

3) Create your team in the online rostering system (registration will be live at the beginning of the 2013 college season).  This gives your organizers the right person to contact, and when you've added your players to the roster, you'll be able to import that roster for use in regular season events.

4) Go to sanctioned-events on our events calendar (College Open / College Women) or the score reporter.  Remind TDs of events you wish to attend the benefits of event sanctioning.  You'll need to create an online roster for Regular Season events at least 48 hours prior to the start of the event, using only college-eligible players.

5) Get your registrar-certified roster at USAU HQ by the 5pm MT Friday March 8th, 2013 Roster Deadline

College Series Progression

Regardless if a team participates in the regular season, every team in the College Series begins at Conference Championships.  The top few (allocated based on the end of season rankings) teams from each Conference quailfy for their Regional tournament.  At each of the Division-I Regional tournaments, teams in each division battle for bids to be one of 20 teams at the College Championships.  Small school teams can qualify to be one of 16 teams at the College Division III Championships by competing at D-III Regionals.
