International


USA Ultimate is a member of the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF), which is a member of the General Association of International Sport Federations (GAISF), the International World Games Association (IWGA), and is a recognized member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). WFDF became a provisional GAISF member in 1987 and was admitted as a full member to GAISF and IWGA in 1996, and to the IOC in 2015. Flying disc sports were introduced as demonstration sports at the 1989 World Games in Karlsruhe, Germany. Ultimate was first admitted as a medal sport at the 2001 World Games in Akita, Japan.


USA Ultimate sends teams to compete at the following WFDF events: 

World Games

WFDF World Ultimate and Guts Championships (WUGC)

  • U.S. representation: National Team tryouts and selection for Mixed/Open/Women's division. Masters division representatives will be the previous year's Masters Champions.
  • Divisions: Mixed, Open, Women's, Open Masters, Women's Masters
  • Frequency: quadrennial
  • Upcoming: 2016 WUGC (London, U.K.)
  • Most Recent: 2012 WUGC (Saki, Japan)
     

WFDF World Championships of Beach Ultimate (WCBU)

  • U.S. representation: National Team tryouts and selection for Mixed/Open/Women's division. Masters division representatives will be the previous year's Masters Champions.
  • Divisions: Mixed, Open, Women's, Open Masters, Mixed Masters, Women's Masters, Grandmasters
  • Frequency: quadrennial (although the next will be in 2017 to adjust this event's place in the WFDF event rotation)

WFDF World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC)


WFDF World Under 24 Championships (WU24)

  • U.S. representation: National Team tryouts and selection (Under-24 teams)
  • Divisions: U-24 Mixed, U-24 Open, U-24 Women's (divisions were previously known as U-23)
  • Frequency: biennial
  • Upcoming: 2017 WU24
